On March 2, 2024, members of the community and Sherris Legal P.A. volunteered to assist with a very special local project. Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a local charity in Orlando, Florida. This beautiful charity is directing its services towards a very basic need: sleep. Their motto “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN” echoes the passion and essence behind the project. Simply, their focus is building beds for children who have none.
SHP believes that a bed for a child is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support. Unfortunately, many children in the community are sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors; affecting both their happiness and health. These volunteers are dedicating their time to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need.
The event was sponsored by Orlando’s Citrus Club and the venue was donated by Orlando’s Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company. The Citrus Club held their Charity Classic fundraiser in October 2023 which raised funds for the Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed materials. Accordingly, the next step was purchasing the materials and building the beds. Over a hundred volunteers were cutting and sanding wood, while others were drilling, staining wood and assembling.
Afterwards, volunteers got to participate in the most rewarding part: delivering the beds to eager and excited children in need!
